Particularly noteworthy at the Galley Bay Resort and Spa is its no-tech option, with rooms that are delightfully empty of TVs, wireless Internet access, and similar technological wonders – though many new rooms also offer all of the above, along with iPod alarm clocks, wall=mounted, flat screen TVs, and DVD players. All rooms open onto balconies and patios overlooking lush tropical gardens or seaside views, and many also feature a private splash pool. Privacy and seclusion are assured by limited access to the resort, which is only via a wooden bridge.

Along the resort’s beachfront, guests can take their pick from various activities and entertainment options, from windsurfing (instructors are on hand for beginners) and catamaran sailing, diving, snorkeling, and other non-motorized water sports. Landlubbers also will have plenty to keep them happy, with bicycling trips, tennis, use of the resort’s fitness center, and indulgent treatments at the Galley Bay Resort Spa. But don’t let yourself overdo: you’ll want to save some energy for nighttime, when local musicians perform steel pan, reggae, and other local music for fun and romantic evenings along the beach.
Families, however, should take note: Children under the age of 16 are only accepted at the resort during the Christmas and New Years holiday period, in order to ensure the highest level of tranquility along this small corner of Caribbean paradise.
